DESCRIPTION

A pair of antique Artificers Guild wrought steel candlesticks by Edward Spencer (1872-1938).  Domed bases with thin bands of punched decoration, the stem with acorn and oak leaf knop; stamped 'Artificers Guild' mark to one.  Circa 1909.

 

The Artificers' Guild Ltd (1901–1938), London, was a highly successful British Arts and Crafts movement workshop and showroom founded by Nelson Dawson. Renowned for high-quality metalwork, jewellery, and ecclesiastical items, it was known for skilled craftsmanship in silver, iron, and enamel.

 

Edward Spencer (1872–1938) began as a junior designer at the Artificers’ Guild at its founding in 1901. He would go on to become chief designer two years later.  Many of Spencer’s designs were featured in The Studio magazine.

 

DIMENSIONS – H:  33cm – bases are 15cm in diameter.
