DESCRIPTION

Rare cast brass (or possibly bronze) inkwell modelled as William Shakespeare’s famous character Sir John Falstaff (he appears in three of his plays, most notably Henry V).  Made in England in the 19th century, his hinged head folding back to reveal the inkwell.

CONDITION

He is marked (small dents) in a couple of places; most notably on the back of his cloak.  The feet of the base are a little bent and one is an old replacement.  The screws holding him to the base are also replacements.  The porcelain insert is a modern reproduction - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
