DESCRIPTION
Discovered in the Cotswolds’ this unusual hand painted match holder was made in Germany in the early 20th century. Made from bisque porcelain his surprised open mouth would have been designed to take used matches and possibly as an ashtray. This example is so clean inside that I do not believe it has ever been used. It has some faint and illegible markings plus the number “36” to the base.
