DESCRIPTION
A magic lantern slide of an early and rare Röntgen ray shadowgram of a human hand by Sir James Mackenzie Davidson (1856-1919). Dating from around 1900 and presented on a bespoke ebonised wood and brass display stand.
Röntgen ray shadowgrams are early X-ray photographs that revealed the internal structure of the body by recording the shadows cast by bones and foreign objects. They were discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895.
Sir James Mackenzie Davidson was a Scottish ophthalmic surgeon who became one of the earliest pioneers of radiology in Britain.

CONDITION
The slide is in excellent condition and the stand is brand new - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
