DESCRIPTION

A fine quality lacquered brass dip circle by Becker, Hatton Wall, London made around 1900.  Dip circles (sometimes referred to as a dip needles) were used to measure the angle between the horizon and the Earth’s magnetic field (the dip angle).  They were used in surveying, mining and prospecting as well as for the demonstration and study of magnetism.

CONDITION

It is a very good example with minimum wear and some tarnishing consistent with its age - please look very closely at the pictures as they form part of the description.
